The Yolngu Boy soundtrack combines the best of contemporary Australian rock with new original pieces from the renowned Australian composer, Mark Ovenden. Yolngu Boy boasts hard edged beats from the Alice Springs band Nokturnl, rare grooves from Melbourne's funky soul sister Kelli Howell, favorites from quirky popsters Regurgitator and the sheer power of Yothu Yindi - including some of their hugely successful anthems and an unreleased version of Ghost Spirit from the new Yothu Yindi album. Composer Mark Ovenden worked closely with indigenous musicians in Arnhem land and with the natural rhythms of the Australian bush itself to create a unique soundscape for Yolngu Boy. He has created a backdrop that is both true to the indigenous Australian spirit and thoroughly contemporary. Mark uses the most modern techniques of electronic music to harness the beauty and power of indigenous Australian instruments and voices. |
